Jerry Taylor Trott, 67, passed away Tuesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Onslow County, he was the son of the late Alvin Hugh and Etta Mae Trott.

Jerry spent his childhood on a farm in Richlands, N.C.

After high school, he attended Lenoir Community College, and received a degree in air conditioning and refrigeration.

He served in the United States Navy for four years during which he met and married Judy Gardner of Wilson, N.C.

After his time in the service, he attended East Carolina Univeristy, and received a teaching degree in industrial arts.

He retired from the Wayne County School System in 2002.

Jerry served on the Mar-Mac Volunteer Fire Department and the Wayne County Fire Association, and held various offices in both.

He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, and was currently serving as chairman of the board of trustees. He also enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy; a daughter, Jennifer Davis and husband, C.W., of Goldsboro; a sister, Marjorie Woodall and husband, Harold, of Clinton; a brother, Don Trott and wife, Sheila, of Carolina Beach; a grand-daughter, Natalie Davis; a stepgranddaughter, Ann-Marie Davis; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A service to remember Jerry’s life will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, with pastor Terry Hobbs officiating. Entombment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
