Bettie Jane Mason Diffee died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy period of poor health.
Jane was delivered at home in Harlowe, N.C., by her grandfather, Dr. C.N. Mason, Feb. 12, 1934, to Beatrice Dickinson Mason and Roy Fearrington Mason.
She graduated from Beaufort High School in 1952.
Jane married James Edward Diffee that same year, and began a career as a military spouse that took her to many stations in the United Sates and overseas, along with their five children.
Jane loved being a grandmother and a homemaker, reading and doing her crossword puzzles, and she dearly loved dogs.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years; her daughters, Pamela Joanne Diffee, Paula Lynne Diffee McLendon, Pattie Jayne Diffee Marriner and husband, Rick, and Penni Michelle Diffee Bland; her grandchildren, Jonathan Richardson and wife, Andrea, Cassandra Broach, Wyatt Bland, Liam Diffee, Mason Bland and Shane Diffee; her brother, Xenophon "Mike" Mason; sister, Mary Louise Langdon and husband, Art; special nieces, Jennifer Mason and Stephanie Mason Shady; nephews, Jeff and Charles Mason; along with her many other much loved nieces, nephews and friends.
She would not want us to forget granddogs, Weetzie and Gracie.
Jane was predeceased by her brother, Merle Gresham Mason; her only son, James Diffee; her beloved grandson, Cody McLendon; and adopted granddog, Abby.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
