MOUNT OLIVE -- Mack Edmundson Jones, 62, Pleasant Grove community near Mount Olive, passed away at home during the final hour of Monday night, Oct. 7, 2013.

A celebration of Mack's life will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with entombment following in Williams-Jones Family Cemetery on the family farm.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, Oct. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the residence at other times.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mack's request that memorial gifts be made to Cure for the Colors, c/o Southeastern Cancer Center, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Mack, born in Mount Olive Feb. 11, 1951, to the late Linwood Edmundson Jones and Louvenia Williams Jones, graduated from East Duplin High School in 1969, and later from Career Academy for Radio Broadcasting.

For more than 40 years, he was in farming partnerships with his father and brother, and was in the radio broadcasting business for 45 years, from ownership to management, sales and personality disc jockeying. He had hosted such radio shows as "Carolina Classics with Mack Jones" and "Carolina Cruisin' with Mack Jones."

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan Best Jones of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Linwood and Erica Houston Jones of Pink Hill and David Mack and Marie Blizzard Jones of Mount Olive; four grandchildren, David Earl Jones of Mount Olive and Robert Daniel Jones, Ella Hope Jones and Elaina Renee Jones all of Pink Hill; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy Ray and Debbie Sholar Jones of Mount Olive; a sister and brother-in-law, Pattie J. and Bobby Poythress of Mount Olive; a niece, Donna Jones Grady and husband, Vance, of Mount Olive; two nephews, William Ray Jones and wife, April, and Jon-Blaney Jones all of Mount Olive; and his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Best of Warsaw, and their children, spouses and families.

Mack Jones was a busy person who always had an ongoing project. He loved music. He loved farming. He truly did it his way!!
