MONROE B. LANIER

Monroe Blaine Lanier, 83, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Durham surrounded by his family.

Monroe was born in Lenoir County Feb. 11, 1930, to the late George and Dora Banks Lanier.

He served the citizens of Goldsboro for 30 years as a firefighter with Goldsboro Fire Department.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by his funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Martie Mangum and the Rev. Rodolph Lanier officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Kinston.

At other times, the family will be at the home of Charlene Reaume, 5212 Pelham Drive, Durham, N.C.

Monroe is survived by his daughters, Charlene Lanier Reaume and fiancé, Gary Wisnieski, of Durham and Marsha Lanier Cholewinski and husband, Joseph, of Durham; son, Blaine Lanier Jr. of Goldsboro; brother, Rodolph Lanier of Atlanta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Leonard "Lennie" Lanier; two sisters; and three brothers.
