NEWMAN B. PERCISE

July 12, 1928-Oct. 9, 2013

Newman Brown Percise, 85, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Newman was born in Wayne County July 12, 1928, to the late Alderman Percise and Mary Potts Percise. He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn Percise, who preceded him in death in 1992.

Newman had been employed with Moffatt Oil Co. and Wooten Oil Co., and retired from Thompson Oil Co., after 45 years of service in sales.

Newman was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. He was devoted to his church, and was involved in many activities of the church, including the Friendship Sunday school class, as long as his health permitted.

Newman was a member of the Optimist Club, and in 1972 was awarded the Optimist of the Year.

He was also a member of Goldsboro Elks Lodge No. 139 B.P.O.E., Goldsboro Golf Club and Lane Tree Golf Club.

Newman enjoyed many years of umpiring baseball games, and was a member of the Eastern Carolina Baseball Officials Association, and was awarded the Dick Knox Distinguished Service Award in 2012.

Above all, Newman enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Newman is survived by his children, Linda Pearce and husband, Danny, of Wilmington, Kathy Long and husband, William, of Goldsboro and Newman Ronald Percise and wife, Scottie, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Brian Percise and wife, Heather, Beth Percise, Danny Pearce Jr. and Frankie Pearce; and four great-grandchildren, Alex, Abbie, Lexie and Mark Wutschel.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
