Mary Saidla Plummer, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Avante Nursing Home in Reidsville after a long active life.

She loved her family, her church, her community and traveling.

A service celebrating Mary's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Harry officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church parlor at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Mary was born in Auburn, Ala., to the late Claude Ryan Saidla Sr. and Anna Jones Saidla.

She met her husband, Dr. William E. "Bill" Plummer, at Auburn University, where they were both students. They married in 1947, and moved to Goldsboro in 1950 to open a veterinary practice.

Mary was active for many years in many capacities in the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, serving as president twice.

She and Bill started attending St. Paul United Methodist Church the first Sunday they were in Goldsboro. Mary served on most committees and councils at the church, including singing in the choir for 62 years.

She also was involved with the Wayne Community Concert Association, serving in various capacities. The association dedicated the 2010/2011 concert season to honor her for her many years of service.

She served on the WAGES Senior Companion Program Advisory Council for many years, held several offices in her 40 years with the Daughters of the American Revolution, was active in the Gardenettes Garden Club for many years and worked with other volunteer organizations and schools through the years.

Mary is survived by her four children, Dr. Bill Plummer of Los Osos, Calif., Lee Templeton and husband, George, of Wentworth, N.C., Alan Plummer and wife, Carolyn, of Goldsboro and Mark Plummer and wife, Gaynell, of White Cloud, Mich.; six grandchildren, William Plummer, Kim Cole, Jason Plummer, Blake Plummer, Trenton Plummer and Tia Plummer; three great-grandchildren, Julia Plummer, Thomas Plummer and Clinton Cole; two brothers, Robert Saidla and wife, Frances, and John Saidla and wife, Janice; two special sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wilson and Ruby Saidla; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Bill Plummer, and her older brother, Claude Ryan Saidla Jr.
