MIKIALA MONTERO ETHERIDGE

Mrs. Mikiala Montero Etheridge, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Jan. 29, 2013.
She was affectionately known as Meme by all those who loved her.
She was born June 7, 1935 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to William Lewis Montero and Nora Peterson Montero. She was very proud of her Hawaiian heritage.
After attending the prestigious Kamehameha School, she proudly served her country in the United States Air Force and Civil Service for 35 years.
She also served on the board of directors for Seymour Johnson Federal Credit Union.
Mikiala was preceded in death by her father, William Lewis Montero.
Her surviving family includes her devoted husband of 57 years, Donald Craig Etheridge of Goldsboro; her mother, Nora Peterson Montero of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her brother, William Donald Montero and wife, Barbara, of Colorado Springs; her daughter, Dawna Etheridge Thompson and husband, Mike, of Princeton; her son, Michael Craig Etheridge and wife, Teresa, of Cary; her son, Jay Donald Etheridge and wife, Nancy, of Willow Springs; her granddaughters, Stacey Thompson Byrd and husband, Christopher, of Cary and Lisa Thompson Rochette and husband, David, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and her grandson, Joshua Matthew Thompson of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Mikiala's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was a devoted grandmother who enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow.
She and her husband Donald loved to travel, and together they visited all seven continents and all 50 states.
She had a passion for painting and loved sharing her artwork with family and friends. She was also an avid bowler and canasta player.
She was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Parish.
Funeral services will be held at Saint Mary Catholic Parish in Goldsboro Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro Friday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will also receive friends at their residence.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the nurses and staff of SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health, Community Home Care and Hospice of Wayne County and Dr. Keith Kilauea Carmack for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health, Saint Mary Catholic Parish or the American Cancer Society.
