EFFIE MAE SNEAD KEARNEY

Effie Mae Snead Kearney, 85, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.

Effie was born in Wayne County Sept. 3, 1927, to the late Levie Snead and Sula McCandless Snead. She was married to the late Wade Harper Kearney.

Effie was retired from Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Co.

She was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and a member of the Goldsboro Chapter of Women of The Moose, where she obtained the highest honor of College of Regents.

Effie had been a resident of Spring Arbor of Wilmington for the past year and a half.

There will be a reception in the St. Francis Episcopal Church Parish Hall from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by a service to celebrate her life at 1:30 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Doug Culton will officiate. Burial will follow in Pikeville Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann McDonald Turlington and husband, Lloyd, of Pikeville, Rosemary Kearney Dove and husband, Gene, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Mary Ellen Kearney Seay and husband, James Jr. of Wilmington; grandchildren, Valerie McDonald Howell and husband, Michael, Sylvia Dove, Mary Elizabeth Seay McIntosh and husband, Eric, Julia Dove Hays and husband, Matt, and James Lee Seay III and wife Anne; and great-granddaughter, Caroline Seay.

She is also survived by two beloved pets, Pokey and Honey Bear.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Albert Snead.
