Died Jan. 9, 2013
Everett Arvlin Morrison, 90, died peacefully at his daughter's home in Raleigh Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sherman Dilley and the Rev. F.G. Alford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors and Masonic rites.
The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
"Ed," as he was called later in life, is a veteran of World War II. Ed served behind enemy lines in France and Germany, and also fought in North Africa.
On several occasions Ed drove General Eisenhower back and forth to and from the front lines of the war. Ed also worked as a driver for the Visitors Bureau, driving members of the United States Foreign Affairs Committee for the United States House of Representative in reconstruction-era Europe.
Ed was a Mason since 1953 and a member of Amity Lodge No. 340 A.F. and A.M. in Florence, S.C., and he proudly wore his ring until the day he died.
Ed was also a Shriner.
Ed worked for many years as a manager of a large pipe fitting company and for Richmond County; he was a skilled electrician, a builder, a fireman and a "jack of all trades."
Ed loved helping his neighbors, and loved animals, especially his cat Lil' Bit. He would never allow a stray cat or dog to go hungry. Later in life, Ed received much joy sitting on his porch watching Mike and Lisa Jones' horses and goats playing in the fields.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimlie Morrison Mitchell; his son-in-law, Bob Mitchell; four nieces; and three nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life, Polly Jones Morrison; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Reid Morrison; and his brothers, William B. Davis, Reed Morrison, and Buford Morrison.
Special thanks go out to Mike and Lisa Jones for all the care, effort and love they gave to Uncle Ed as he declined.
Also, we would like to express a loving thank you to his wonderful sister-in-law, Kathryn Edgerton.
Ed was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, and special thanks goes out to them for all of their love and support. We would also like to thank all the special people who gave care to Ed in Raleigh, namely Arlene, Ne Ne, Angela, Aquilla and Michelle.
