PAULINE AVERA GODWIN

PIKEVILLE -- Pauline Avera Godwin died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Pauline was a native of Johnston County, but had lived in Wayne County since 1956.

She was the daughter of the late Anna Langdon Avera and Paul A. Avera.

Pauline was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sherman Dilley and the Rev. F.G. Alford officiating. Interment will be Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

The family will greet friends Thursday following the service at the funeral home.

Pauline is survived by her husband of 66 years, James A. Godwin; a daughter, Paula Benton of Pikeville; two sons, Sherwood Godwin of Grifton and Al Godwin of Ringgold, Va.; five grandchildren, Donald Benton of Lenoir, Joseph Cotton of Dunn, Paul Benton of Pikeville, Anna Godwin of Rocky Mount and David Godwin of Grifton; and five great-grandchildren, Morgan Cotton and Anna Cotton of Goldsboro, Emily Benton and Amber Benton of Lenoir and Harold Benton of Pikeville.

She is also survived by four sisters, Mildred Bunn, Doris Brown and Peggy Weaver all of Micro and Linda Williams of Sharpsburg; and a brother, John Avera of Black Creek.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Avera and Vick Avera, and two sisters, Lorine Godwin and Lois Narron.
