AYDEN -- Retired Sergeant Major Robert Randolph "Bob" Barwick, 75, of Ayden, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. Bob was born April 12, 1937, in Wayne County to the late Andrew and Willie Lewis Barwick. Bob retired from the United States Army following 24 years of loyal service. He served two tours during the Vietnam War and was a Bronze Star recipient. Bob later worked in civil service and was a member of Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. from Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ashley Summerlin officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty Turner Barwick; four children, Rhonda Locklear and husband, Donald, of Parkton, Deanna Powell of Brookport, Ill., Robert Keith Barwick of Springfield, Tenn., and Randi Barwick of New Bern; three stepchildren, Chris Sutton of Ayden, Charles Sutton and wife, Sharon of Kite, Ga., Charlene Anderson and husband, Timmy of Goldsboro; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Jones; sister, Rachel Hill; and two brothers, Harvey Barwick and Joe Barwick.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
