Mr. Benjamin Jones, 509 Olivia Lane, died Friday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Goldsboro Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 1314 Ben Brewington Court, with pastor James E. Collins officiating.
There will be a public viewing an hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery on Martin Luther King Blvd.
Mr. Jones was a native of Bethel, N.C., before serving his country in the United States Marine Corps.
He later made Goldsboro his home and married the former Laurena Sutton in 1946.
He retired from the city of Goldsboro with 22 years of service in 1986.
Ben never met a stranger and enjoyed his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Laurena S. Jones; two sons, Donald Ray Jones and Terry Gooding; his parents, Edward and Ada Jones; and his brothers, William, Johnny and James Jones.
Sweet memories will live on by his two daughters, Grace (Thomas Sr.) Austin and Betty Richardson; a son, Anthony (Deborah) Richardson; two sisters-in-law, Mable S. Langston and Eliza Jones, all of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his caretaker, Ms. Sheneka Hudgins.
Arrangements are being handled by Hamilton Funeral Chapel.
