JOHN TURNER WALSTON

Died Feb. 25, 2012

FARMVILLE -- Mr. John Turner Walston, 96, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Farmville by Dr. Rick Bailey. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery in Farmville.

The family was to receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m.

Mr. Walston was a member of First Baptist Church throughout his adult life.

He served with the 51st Engineer Combat Battalion of the United States Army during World War I.

Later he served as mayor and a commissioner of the town of Farmville.

He was an active member of Farmville Lions club, and was a 50-year member of Farmville Masonic Lodge 517.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Mooring Walston, and a son, William Albert Walston.

He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Elaine Walston Calhoun and husband, Jack, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Catherine Walston Wooten and husband, Ray, of Kinston; and a son, John Turner Walston Jr. and wife, Jane, of Goldsboro.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jack Wollard Calhoun Jr. and wife, Lynn, Brent Turner Calhoun and wife, Amy, Amy Lynn Wooten, John Turner Walston III and wife, Corrie, and Jason Bowman Walston, and four great-grandchildren, Austin, Katie, Reagan and Charlotte Calhoun.
