Carrie Fields Dawson went to be with the Lord Feb. 27, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Carrie was born in Greene County to the late William Owen and Carrie Hill Fields, and was married to the late Jack Dawson.

A faithful member of Victory Baptist Church in Goldsboro, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was known to most as Granny.

She was an expert seamstress, and did alterations for many years.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange, with the Rev. George Lee and the Rev. Fred Crank officiating. A private viewing for immediate family will be held prior to the service, and at other times the family will receive friends at the home of Cyndi Siers.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Bill Mitchell of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Cyndi and Derek Siers of Pikeville, Beverly Lane of Goldsboro and Gene Dawson of Goldsboro; daughter-in-law, Ann Dawson of Goldsboro; great-grandchildren, Melissa Stevens, Chris Stevens and Phillip Goff of Goldsboro, and Jacob and Christian Dawson of Pikeville; sisters, Ethleen Lane of Pine Tops and Francis Ellis of Roanoke, Va.; several nieces and nephews; her church family; and a special friend and roommate, Mary Pate.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Bobby Dawson; sisters, Gladys Hill and Emma Pate; and brothers, Wilbur Fields and Jimmy Fields.
