DAVID G. WALSTON JR.

David Garlon Walston Jr., 55, passed away suddenly Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011.

David was born in Wayne County Sept. 9, 1956, to Peggy Peele Walston of Goldsboro and the late David Garlon Walston Sr.

He worked as a correctional officer with Eastern Correctional Institution, and was a devoted volunteer fireman with Saulston Fire Department, where he served as chief.

David was a hard worker, but always enjoyed the opportunity to go deer hunting.

He was a member of Saulston United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Saulston United Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Charles Moseley and the Rev. Carolyn Sims officiating.

The family will also greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Interment with fireman honors will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Peele Family Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, David is survived by his children, Lt. Cmdr. David Mayron Walston of the United States Navy stationed in Norfolk, Va., Noelle Hicks and husband, Shawn, of Goldsboro and Trent Walston of Goldsboro; and his grandson, Julian David "J.D." Hicks.

He is also survived by his brother, Brad Walston and wife, Angie, and their children, Brandi and Bobby of Goldsboro; and his special friend, Catherine Carraway.
