GORDON W. BATEMAN

Gordon William Bateman, 70, Goldsboro and formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died Dec. 25, 2011.

Gordon was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April 4, 1941, and was the stepson of Nina Bateman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Bateman.

Gordon received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

He served his country in the United States Army.

Employed at TRW Inc. of Cleveland for 23 years, Gordon worked his way through sales positions to vice president. He was vice president at Clevite Corp. in Cleveland and vice president of Bundy Corp. in Detroit, Mich.

After moving to Goldsboro, he was vice president of AP Parts, and semi-retired as a financial planner for Nationwide Insurance in Kinston, Goldsboro and Smithfield.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Goldsboro, Walnut Creek Country Club, board member of Kirkwood Retirement Home and past board member of Smart Choices for Youth.

He was a Guardian ad Litem volunteer.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Drew Clark officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In addition to his wife, Sandy, he is survived by three sons, Gordon Bateman and wife, Kristine, of North Richland Hills, Texas, Doug Bateman and wife, Cherie, of Colleyville, Texas, and son, Christopher Bateman and wife, Miranda, of Lodi, Ohio.

He was the stepfather of Matthew Hexter and wife, Melanie, of Howard, Ohio, and Eric Hexter and wife, Christiana, of Austin, Texas.

He was the grandfather to Amanda, Brandon, Taylor, Mary Katherine, Andrew, Claire, Dante, Hayden and Kiya Bateman, and stepgrandfather to Madison, Luke, Morgan, Logan, Lincoln, Lawson, Emerson, Elliott and Everlee Hexter.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church at 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or the American Cancer Society at 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.
