Kenneth Gordon Smack, 86, Goldsboro, passed away Monday morning at Mount Olive Care and Rehab.

He was the widower of the late Hilda Smack.

Mr. Smack was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church, and served in the United States Navy.

He was retired from Allied Chemical Corp. in Morristown, N.J., as a chemical engineer, as well as the State of North Carolina Environmental Protection Agency as an environmental engineer.

Mr. Smack was a member of Masonic Lodge 112, and was awarded Diamond Jubilee Certificate Nov. 17, 2008.

Funeral services will
be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Toler officiating. Committal services will be held Thursday morning in Providence United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service Wednesday evening.

Mr. Smack is survived by a son, Edward Harris Aken and wife, Colleen Bauer, of Goldsboro; a daughter, Charleen Aken Allen of Goldsboro; and a grandson, Brandon Burdette Aken of Goldsboro.
