Mr. John Franklin Kates, 926-B Fairview Circle, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 p.m. at New St. John AME Church, 1307 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro. The Rev. Sheridan A. Knight and the Rev. Dorothy Richardson will officiate. Interment will follow in Old Mill Cemetery.
Mr. Kates is survived by a sister, Carolyn Kates (Thomas) Smith of Southfied, Mich.; a brother, William Kates of Goldsboro; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jean Kates, Rosa Crawford, Vertie Mae Crawford and Charlotte Kates of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Alonzo Kates, Antonio Kates and August Kates; 19 nieces; eight nephews; a special niece, Earline Kates of Pikeville; a special nephew, Anthony Kates of Goldsboro; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, and at other times at the home of his brother, Mr. William Kates, 1004 S. Madison Ave.
