RUTH W. MERRITT

Margaret Ruth Wilson Merritt, 82, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Ruth was born in Johnson County, Tenn., March 18, 1929, to the late John Preston Wilson and Ruth Kilby Wilson. She was married to the late Marion Merritt.

Ruth graduated from Riverview High School.

She attended Appalachian Teachers College, and later taught school in Dublin, N.C.

She retired from O'Berry Center after 19 years of service.

Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, and had been very involved with Wayne County's SPCA.

Ruth's primary goal was the happiness and security of her family. She will be remembered as loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Ruth always enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.

A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with Dr. Glenn Phillips and her nephew, the Rev. Benjamin Wilson, officiating.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Jerry Campbell of Leland, Ronald Merritt of Charlotte and Daniel Merritt of Goldsboro; her sisters, Emma Jean Suggs of Whiteville and Geraldine Greer of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her many friends at the Lantern Inn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA, P.O. Box 821, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
