BISHOP LEAMON DUDLEY SR.

Bishop Leamon Dudley Sr., 84, lovingly known by his family, church members and friends as "Bishop" of 103 North Virginia St., departed his earthly life peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Love Temple United Holy Church, 201 Oak Forest Road, with Bishop Geoffrey V. Dudley Sr., son, officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Cemetery, South, 2925 S. US 117 Hwy., Dudley, 28333.

Bishop was born in Johnston County on May 13, 1927, to the late Thelma Gerald Dudley and Gaston Dudley.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Ida Dorothy, and three children, Litha A. Baldwin, Shelton R. Dudley and Minnie M. Baldwin.

He attended public school in Johnston County and he furthered his education at Shaw University in Raleigh. Dr. Dudley received his Bachelor of Theology Degree at the Bible Training Institute in 1964, and he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the United Christian College in Goldsboro in 1978.

He pastored Saint Peter Holy Church in Keaner for six years; Saint Mary Holy Church in Kenansville for three years; Holy Trinity United Holy Church in Greenville for 13 years; Greater Saint Bethel United Holy Church in Middlesex, for 46 years; and Saint Delight United Holy Church in LaGrange for 34 years.

A public viewing will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 900 S. George S., from 2 until 5 p.m. An inspirational service and wake will be conducted on Tuesday evening, Nov. 29, 2011, at Branch Memorial Tabernacle from 7 until 8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends and other family members.

"Bishop" leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories his current wife of the home, Elder Lucy Dudley; five daughters, Elder Eugenia B. Daniels of Fayetteville, Thelma D. Dudley of Dudley, and Cassandra R. Quick and husband, Gregory, of Goldsboro, Shirley Shipman and husband, Ronnie, of Elizabeth, N.J., Theresa McIntyre and husband, Michael, of LaGrange; six sons, Leamon Dudley Jr. of Westfield N.J.; Reginal C. Dudley of Goldsboro, Elder Lamont Dudley and wife, Johnise, of Goldsboro, Elder Larry C. Dudley and wife, Shanell, of Albany, N.Y., Bishop Geoffrey V. Dudley Sr. and wife, Glenda, of O'Fallon, Ill.; and James Hardy Jr.; two sisters, Minister Cassie Wilkerson of Philadelphia, Pa. and Mildred Lewis and husband, Frizzell, of Elizabeth, N.J.; one uncle, Robert Gerald Sr. and wife, Virginia, of Goldsboro; 38 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 103 North Virginia St., where family and friends will assemble, one hour prior to the funeral at 9:45 a.m., in preparation for the funeral procession.
