DAVID N. NICHOLS

David Newton Nichols, a native of Parrish, Ala. passed away Saturday after a valiant battle with cancer.

Memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home with visitation to follow. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

He began his military career in the Navy at the age of 16 and retired from the Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant with 26 years of distinguished service, which included two tours overseas. On Sundays he enjoyed volunteering with the elderly at Britthaven Retirement Home. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; a daughter, Pamela Spellen; and a sister, Lucille Robinson.

He is survived by his mother, Rachel Paschal; a son, Allen Nichols (Debbie); daughter, Brenda Long; brothers, Neal Paschal, Tommy Paschal, Johnny Mack Paschal, Timmy Pendley; his grandchildren, David Spellen (Melissa), Lori Long (Scott), Renee Long (Terry), Theodore Spellen (Sandy), and Chris Nichols; his great-grandchildren, Zoey and Jayden Lane, and Maddy Suzanne Spellen; several close nieces and nephews and two special canine friends, Nikki and Benji.

In addition to family, special friends include George Moore, Pastor Johnny Sasser, Bobby Chase, Robert Odom, Jimi Wunders, as well as many special friends from Trinity Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Howell Funeral Home.
