Feb. 10, 1925-Sept. 27, 2011

Verna Bell Ford Williams, 326 E. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, was born Feb. 10,1925, to the late Willie Ford and Minnie Baldwin Ford. She departed this earthly life Sept. 27, 2011, at approximately 10 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Hospital with her loving daughter by her side.

Verna Bell was born in Greene County, and attended Green County Schools.

She accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age, and joined White Oak Grove, where she was a dedicated and faithful member of the senior choir until her health began to fail her.

Verna Bell and Hersel Williams were united in holy matrimony May 12, 1945. To this union two children were born.

She was employed at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 30 years. After retiring, she rested for a couple of years, but she had to keep moving. Soon she was employed at Goldsboro High School and First Baptist Church.

Verna Bell was preceded in death by her husband, Hersel Williams, and two brothers, Roosevelt "Bud" Ford Sr., and Wallace Nathaniel Ford Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, David (Darlene) Williams of Goldsboro; a loving and devoted daughter, Bernestine Whitehorn of the home; a grandson whom she reared, Maurice Williams of the home; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; two sisters, Nora Wilder and Elizabeth Belton both of Philadelphia; two aunts, Beatrice Joyner and Gracie Best; a special brother-in-law, Brody (Minnie) Williams of Dudley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at White Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 2261 Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, with pastor Elder Dorian Suggs officiating. Following the services in the sanctuary, Mrs. Williams' delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted to Old Mill Cemetery in Goldsboro for interment rites.

Mrs. Williams' earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Williams and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
