CLIFTON W. EVANS

RALEIGH -- Clifton W. Evans, 85, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Rex Hospital.

Clifton was born in Johnston County Aug. 4, 1926, to the late Leon Evans and Lanie Creech Evans.

He served his country in the United States Army, and was a veteran of World War II.

Clifton was the founder and operator of Sampson Salvage Co. in Clinton.

He was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vann Spivey and the Rev. Ed Gunter officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Clifton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Erlene Jordan Evans; his son, Warren Evans and wife, Kay Ann, of Clinton; his daughter, Elaine Evans Ward and husband, Douglas, of Fuquay-Varina; his sisters, Joyce Sauls and husband, Donald, of Goldsboro and Janice Curfman and husband, Woody, of Garner; his brothers, Herbert Evans of Princeton, Percy Evans of Las Vegas, Nev., James Evans of Archdale and Bill Evans of Garner; his grandchildren, Kimberly M. Ward, Eric W. Ward and Kam Miller. He is also survived by numerous brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Crawford.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church at 867 N.C. 581 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, in Pine Forest United Methodist Church fellowship hall from 1 to 2:45 p.m.
