ELGA W. NICHOLS

May 24, 1934-Sept. 29, 2011

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:6-8

Elga Olive Wells Nichols, 77, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family.

Elga was born in Johnston County May 24, 1934, to the late Vernon Wells and Gladys Radford Wells.

She was employed with the Goldsboro News-Argus for 30 years, where she served as the woman's editor for many of those years.

Elga was a woman of incredible faith, and was a loyal member of Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church for more than 67 years. As long as her health permitted, she was very active in the ministries of the church.

For many years, Elga served as the church musician and sang in the choir. She also sang and played the piano for numerous quartets over the years.

Elga was a student of the Bible, and was an excellent Sunday school teacher. Even when she could no longer attend church regularly, she continued to minister by calling and sharing with others of the church.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Merrill Davis, the Rev. Timothy Creel and her son-in-law, the Rev. Marty Gurganus officiating. Interment will be Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Elga is survived by her husband of 59 years, Franklin Nichols; her children, Greg Nichols and wife, Rhonda, Connie N. Gurganus and husband, Marty, and Dwayne Nichols and wife, Lisa; her grandchildren, Benjamin Nichols, Kate Nichols, Michael Gurganus, David Gurganus, Jonathan Nichols and Kristen Nichols; and her brothers, Ralph Wells and wife, Rachel, and Keith Wells.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Whitley.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534

The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center at Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church.
