WILLIE ROGERS TAYLOR

Willie Rogers Taylor, 73, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Roy," of 706 Stronach Ave., departed his earthly life on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Greater Saint John FWB Church, 613 Mitchell Road, Dudley, with Pastor Joseph L. Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 825 US Hwy. 117 N.

"Roy" was born in Wayne County on Oct. 7, 1937, to the late Mary Elizabeth Taylor and James I. Monk.

Willie served his country by serving in the United States Army from which he received an honorable
discharge.

"Roy" was preceded in death by a brother, James Henry Taylor; two sisters, Linda Faye Elliott and Margaret Ann Taylor.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 900 S. George St., from 2 until 7 p.m. Also, a wake will be conducted, with the family present from 5 until 7 p.m., to receive friends and other family members.

"Roy" leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Geneva H. Taylor of the home; three children, Melinda Gibbs and husband, Avery, of Winchester, Va., Patricia Pittman and husband, James, of Dudley, and Alvin Hines and wife, Adneta, of Goldsboro; three brothers, Bishop Boylan Taylor and wife, Patsy, Larry Taylor and wife, Deborah, and Terry Taylor and wife, Genia; two sisters, Betty Brinson and Lou Ann Oxendine; one aunt, Mary E. Gills; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends at 706 Stronach Ave., where they will also assemble one hour prior to the funeral in preparation for the funeral procession.
