GENEVA G. DAWSON

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Geneva Smith Griffin Dawson, 87, Seven Springs, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at her home.

Mrs. Dawson was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Wayne County to the late William McKinley Griffin and Lou Allie Smith Griffin.

She was the wife of the late Roger Ralph Dawson, and was preceded in death by two siblings, Edna Wise Hinson and William McKinley Griffin Jr.

Geneva was a member of Seven Springs United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for many years. She taught piano in her home for more than 30 years, and once worked as town clerk for Seven Springs. She was fond of flowers and gardening.

A graveside service of remembrance will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Seven Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Phyllis Vail officiating.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Dawson is survived by a son, Michael Dawson and his companion/family friend, Lynn Hardy, of Seven Springs; daughter, Kay D. Holmes and husband, Allen, of Warsaw; sister, Kathleen G. Wilson of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Angell Dawson and husband, Steve Zarnowski, of Asheville, Paige Dawson of Seven Springs, Elizabeth Dawson of Seven Springs, Stephen M. Holmes and wife, Carol, of Mebane, Laura H. Sechler and husband, Joe, of Raleigh and Lindsey H. Reaves and husband, Brian, of Warsaw; and eight great-grandchildren, Nathan Dawson, Joseph M. Sechler, Benjamin M. Holmes, Caroline M. Sechler, Ayden W. Reaves, Michael E. Holmes, Luke A. Reaves and M. Pierce Reaves.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service, and at other times will be at the home.
