ESPER A. FUTRELL

Esper A. Futrell, 2034 Futrell-Robson Road, died Saturday at Greenville Inpatient Hospice.

Funeral services will be today at 5 p.m. at Sweet Gum Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 787 Sweet Gum Grove Church Road, Stokes. The Rev. Stan Asby will officiate. Committal will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Eureka Cemetery, 200 Hwy. 222 E., Eureka, with Masonic Rites, Brother Bennie Heath, District Deputy Grand Master of the 6th Masonic District will officiate.

There will be a time of sharing with family and friends from 3 until 4:45 p.m. today in the church fellowship hall.

Surviving are sons, Elliott Futrell (Georgia) of Goldsboro, William A. "Billy" Futrell (Wendy) and James Wilbert Futrell (Becky) both of Bethel; a sister, Dorothy F. Sullivan of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Futrell of Goldsboro, Shelley Futrell Tripp (Samuel) of Bethel, Joshua A. Futrell of Ayden, Jessica Futrell Cauthon (Samuel) of Kinston, Jacob A. Futrell of Bell-Arthur, James W. "Will" Futrell Jr. of Bethel, JoAnna A. Futrell of Bethel; great-grandchildren, Samuel C. Tripp Jr., Saria T. Tripp, Kileigh D. Futrell, Anna Grace Cauthron and Samuel Cauthron Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Eloise Bogue Futrell; daughter, Anna Frances Futrell; his parents, Harriet Combs Futrell and Henry Carson Futrell, and his siblings, Percy Futrell, Willie Futrell, Albert Futrell, Louanner Futrell, Roland Futrell, Charlie Futrell, Selma Futrell, Carson Futrell and the Rev. Foy Futrell. He was a graduate of 1938 Class of Eureka High School. While living in Wayne County he was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church where he served as church clerk. He was past master of Harmony Lodge No. 340 A.F. & A.M.

In 1959 he moved to Pitt County and he transferred his church membership to Sweet Gum Grove Free Will Baptist church where he served as deacon. He transferred his lodge membership to Bethel Lodge No. 589 A.F. & A.M. where he was a past master and was also a member of the Goldsboro York Rite Bodies, the New Bern Scottish Rite Bodies, the Sudan Shrine Temple. Mr. Futrell was the first treasurer of Station-House Fire Department. He was a past board member of the Pitt Farmer Mutual Insurance Co.
