CATHY ANN BEST HERNANDEZ

MOUNT OLIVE -- Cathy Best Hernandez, 59, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Cathy was born in Wayne County Sept. 8, 1952, to Shirley Jackson Best and the late Kennon "Bill" Best.

She attended Manley Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church in Grantham until her health declined.

For the last several years, Cathy was a homemaker, enjoying cooking, crocheting, gardening and listening to beach music, but the most important thing in her life was her loving and devoted family.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Manley Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church in Grantham, with the Rev. Terry Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Eureka Christian Church Cemetery.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Jose "Joe" A. Hernandez; two daughters, Teri Ann Thornton and husband, Dillon "D.R.," and Shannon Renee Daniels of Grantham; a son, Timothy Shawn Daniels of Dudley; a and stepson, Mark Hernandez and wife, Loretta of Orange, Va.

She is also survived by her brothers, Gerald "Buster" Best and wife, Becky, Ricky Best and wife, Sandi, and Tracy Best; and a sister-in-law, Robin Bruns Best (wife of the late Jerry Best).

She leaves to cherish her adoring children, Jordan "Blake" Best, Kaysie Annette Thornton, Andrew Isaac Lopez and Madison Ann Daniels; stepgrandchildren, Dinesia, Whitney and Nebraska Hernandez and Erica and Tyler Elford; as well as her eight nieces and nephews and their children.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Gail Best; her brother, Jerry Linwood Best; and a niece, Jessica M. Best.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at the home of Teri Ann Thornton, 814 Loop Road, Grantham.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center of Goldsboro.
