In serenity and resolve, Irvin Coley, 81, 1912 Cooke St., Goldsboro, N.C., died Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, 2011, at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Goldsboro, N.C.

Irvin was born in Wayne County Nov. 10, 1929, to the late Genetta Whitley Coley and Philip Coley.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lois Coley.

His life will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Saint Mark Church of Christ, 700 W. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., with elder Curtis Tuten officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, 425 U.S. 117 North, Goldsboro, N.C.

Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 7 p.m. with family present to receive friends and other family members from 6 to 7 p.m.

Irvin is survived by his children, Phillip and Patricia Smith of Newark, N.J., Rudolph Smith of Fremont, Marcia Coley of Wendell, Donna Beeler of Raleigh, Ervinette and Silas Bizzell of Goldsboro, William Rico Coley of Goldsboro, Robert and Gloria Best of Pikeville, Barbara and Larry Miller of Dudley and Eleanor Brown of Goldsboro; his brothers and sisters, John and Lara Coley of Newark, N.J. Lillie Cox of Goldsboro and Helen and Jake Musgrave of Fayetteville; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren including Mico, whom he raised; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

The family will assemble one hour prior at the residence, 1912 Cooke St., Goldsboro, N.C., in preparation for the funeral procession.
