MOUNT OLIVE -- Robert Austin Best, 40-year-old resident of Beautancus community, died Monday at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of the 1988 graduating class of North Duplin High School.

He loved life and doing things his way, the outdoors, all animals, rabbit and squirrel hunting, playing pranks on others and spending time with his son and family.

Robert Austin is survived by his son, Robert Austin Best Jr.; his parents, Gail S. and Kermit Holland and Robert Henry "Bobby" Best Jr. and Cathy Best; a brother, Jeremy Best and his wife, Joy Flowers Best; a niece, Meredith Paige Best; his special friend, Bethie "B.J." Kennedy; and a stepgrandmother, Marie Holland all of Mount Olive; four stepsiblings, Jim Holland, Joy Holland, Clayton Kirby and Charles Kirby, and their families; and several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Austin and Stella Swinson, Robert Henry Best and Nellie Rich Best Lee.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home, with Stanford Church pastor Kevin Jean officiating.

Visitation will follow the service, and at other times, the family will be at the Jeremy Best home, 874 Beautancus Road.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in Maplewood Cemetery.
