William Patrick "Pat" Gurley, 53, went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family and friends Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Pat was born in Wayne County Aug. 17, 1958, to Patsy Creech Gurley of Goldsboro and the late Billy Franklin Gurley.

He was a division sales manager for more than 20 years at Southco Distributing Co.

Pat was a loving husband, father and "PaPa."

He was a member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where he received his local license as a minister.

Pat enjoyed sports and fishing and was an avid Tarheel fan, but his greatest pleasure was playing with his grandson and seeing souls led to the Lord.

A service to celebrate the life of Pat will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Heath and the Rev. Michael Hamm officiating. The interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Pat is survived, in addition to his mother, by his wife, Laura Pope Gurley; his children, Kelli Hamm and husband, Michael, and Chad Gurley all of La Grange; his sister, Angie Gurley of Pikeville; his brother, Brent Gurley and wife, Tammy, of LaGrange; his grandson, Miles Hamm; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Pope of Goldsboro; his niece, Brittany Gurley; and nephew, Hunter Britt.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Free Gospel Student Ministry at 145 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill, N.C., 28580.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service, and other times at the residence.
