THELMA MOSES LOFTON

Mother Thelma Moses Lofton, 90, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Babe," 132 S. Marion Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., graciously departed this earthly life Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.

"Babe" was born in Wayne County March 7, 1921, to the late Jessie Vick Moses and Leroy Moses.

She attended Wayne County Public Schools in Goldsboro, N.C.

During her youth, Thelma moved to New York, where she met, dated and married John Lofton, and their union of marriage totaled 40 loving and wonderful years together. Also, their marriage was blessed with three beautiful children, John Michael Lofton, Adele Sujuan Lofton and DeShoung Thomas Lofton.

In 2000, Thelma united with Saint Mark Church of Christ, where she served as a member of the mother's board, senior greeters and the mission ministry. In church, she remained active until her health declined.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday, July 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mark Church of Christ, 700 W. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., with Bishop Alton A. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery South, 2925 U.S. 117 south, Dudley, N.C.

A public viewing will be held Sunday, July 17, 2011, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 6 p.m.

Also, a wake will be held Sunday, July 17, 2011, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist from 5 to 6 p.m., with the family present to receive friends and other family members.

Mother Lofton leaves to cherish her loving memory a son, John Michael Lofton and wife, Linda; a daughter, Adele Sujuan Lofton; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Cherry; three brothers-in-law, David Lofton of Virginia, Ernest Lofton of Goldsboro and Willie Cherry of New York; four sisters-in-law, Anna Lofton of New York, Patience Lofton of Virginia, Elma Lofton of Goldsboro and Almena Lofton of Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, Erika, Emmett Hunter and wife, Shell, Emetrius "Meechie" Hunter, Tysheya DuBose and wife, Stefon, of California and John Lofton of the home; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mother Lofton was preceded in death by her husband, John Lofton; a son, DeShoung Lofton; a grandson, Marcel Johnell Lofton; and a sister, Virginia Rich.

At other times, the family will receive friends and other family members at 132 S. Marion Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., where family and friends will also assemble one hour prior to the funeral in preparation for the funeral procession.
