JULIA G. GAY

June 19, 1947-July 13, 2011

LAGRANGE -- Julia Gray Gay, 64, went to her new heavenly home Wednesday, July 13, 2011, surrounded by her family.

Julia was born June 19, 1947, to Mildred Williams Gray and the late Robert "Red" Gray.

She spent her childhood in eastern Wayne County, where she worked hard and diligently on her family's farm. She learned from a young age the importance of family, a strong work ethic and Christian values.

She enjoyed going to school, and after graduation from New Hope High School in 1965, she attended East Carolina University. While studying hard and enjoying being a new wife, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. After graduation, she obtained her first job as an RN at Wayne Memorial Hospital, where her career spanned 38 years.

After retirement, she enjoyed spending lots of quality time with her precious granddaughter, attending Bible study classes and being a source of strength and support for her dear family and friends. She always strived to serve the Lord and those in need. She was quite a blessing to all of those who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind to cherish and honor her memory her devoted husband of 43 years, Joe Gay; her son, Jason Gay of LaGrange; her daughter, Jessica Gray Taylor and husband, Lee Taylor, of Calypso; her beloved granddaughter and best friend, Ainsley Gray Taylor; her mother, Mildred Williams Gray of LaGrange; brothers, Ronnie Gray and wife, Joan, of Greensboro and Jerry Gray of LaGrange; sister, Eleanor Gray Evans and husband, Randy, of LaGrange; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jean and Jimmy Chase, Brenda and Lonnie Evans, Debra and John "Steve" Harris, Rachel Tingen and Ricky and Sharon Gay all of Snow Hill and Marie and Bob Toler of Oklahoma; special cousin, Randy Gray of LaGrange; and lifelong dear friends, Ophelia White of Goldsboro and Rachel Moore of Grifton.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday, July 15, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tony McLamb and the Rev. Terry Heath officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Gray Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday following the service, and at other times it will be at the home.
