NELLIE N. BATEMAN

Nellie Newell Bateman, 72, Goldsboro, surrounded by her family, died Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Hubert H. Newell and Elma Costin Newell.

Formerly of Greensboro, she was retired from Liberty Healthcare as a regional director, and served as an executive in the long-term care industry for 25 years.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon at Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum chapel, with the Rev. Uiyeon Kim officiating.

The family will visit with friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the service.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Norton C. Bateman; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael C. and Molly Bateman of Greensboro; three sisters, Vera B. Sills, JoAnne Britt and husband, Billy, and Janice Jamison of Goldsboro; numerous nieces and nephews; and the loves of her life, grandchildren, Michael Bateman, Anna Bateman and Natalie Bateman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Ray, Edith Gray and Corrine Lewis, and brothers-in-law, Marvin Sills and Dallas Lewis.

The family would like to give special thanks to the "angels" at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Their professionalism, compassion and love gave us all peace of mind during our difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Brogden United Methodist Church, 2918 U.S. 117 south, Dudley, N.C., 28333.
