DORIS HERNDON COATS

Mrs. Doris Ellen Herndon Coats, 80, wife of James Edwin Coats Sr., of Wilkesboro, died Thursday, Feb.10, 2011.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Benton J. Trawick officiating. The family received friends at the fellowship hall following the service.
Mrs. Coats was born in Robeson County on Aug. 10, 1930, to Luther Napier and Viola Brisson Herndon. She was a member of North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Coats was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Vance, Marvin, and Dan Herndon.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Coats is survived by one daughter, Ellen Lipscomb and husband, William, of Wilkesboro; three sons, Cliff Coats and wife, Kim, of Clayton, James Edwin "Eddie" Coats Jr. of Carolina Beach, and William Mark Coats of Wallace; three sisters, Sylvia Herndon Pait of Bladenboro, Olga Herndon Westbrook of St. Pauls, Frances Herndon Peele of Fayetteville; three brothers, Earl Herndon of Parkton, Worth Herndon of Fayetteville, Joseph Herndon of Raleigh; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
