LONNIE FAISON

Lonnie Faison was born March 23, 1914, in Turkey, N.C., to the late David Cameron and Dinah Faison.
He departed this earthly life Oct. 24, 2010, at home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise S. Faison; a sister, Lillie Bennett Greenfield; five brothers-in-law, Robert H. Bennett, Johnnie Williams, Oddie L. Stevens, Archie Stevens and Otha R. Stevens; and sisters-in-law, Naomi S. Evans and Mildred S. Anderson.
He joined Six Runs Baptist Church at an early age, and reunited again when he moved back to Wayne County.
He retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service, earning many awards and certificates. He served with the 92nd Infantry Division (colored), historically known as the "Buffalo Soldiers." He began his service at Ft. Bragg, N.C., and served in Italy, China and Korea. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
After his military career, he owned and operated two service stations in Baltimore, Md.
He moved to Mount Olive, N.C., in 1995, and enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and tinkering with mechanics.
He leaves to cherish treasured memories a son, David H. Hewlett Sr. (Elizabeth) of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Mable F. Williams of Jamaica, Queens, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Pamela, David Jr., Angela, Deborah, David, Tyris and Christopher; 12 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; three special nieces, Bobbie, Betty and Bebra (caregivers); three special nephews, Earthel, Lonnie and Lynwood; stepson, William Worthy Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Isaac Stevens and Morris Stevens; two sisters-in-law, Eloise S. Evans and Norris S. Kornegay; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nephews, great-great-nieces, cousins and friends.
