GERTRUDE BEST HARDISON

Gertrude Best Hardison, 100, passed away Thursday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Gertrude was born in Wayne County Aug. 11, 1910, to the late Elijah and Mittie Smith Best. She was married to the late Jimmy Hardison.

Gertrude was a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and friend to many.

She was a charter member of United in Christ Church, and the oldest member.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. at United In Christ Church, with the Rev. Ira Williford officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Jean H. Pierce and husband, Mack, of Goldsboro and Frances H. Wiggs and husband, Ed, of Nahunta; her sons, Carol Hardison and wife, Margaret, of Hampton, Va., Donald Hardison and wife, Faye, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Theodore Hardison and wife, Janice, of Windsor, Va. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a loving care-giver, Doris Averitte.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Tinnie Ellen Best, and son-in-law, Charles Ray Hare.

The family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at United In Christ Church, and at other times at the home of Jean and Mack Pierce, 116 Misty Lane in Goldsboro.
