CREEDMOOR -- Allen William James Jr., 81, Creedmoor, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Mr. James was a native and lifelong resident of Granville County.

He was the son of the late Allen William James Sr. and Rosa Belle Chappell James.

He served in the United States Army, and retired from Duke University Medical Center in the radiology department as assistant business manager.

He was a member of First Baptist Church Creedmoor, where he served as the organist for approximately 50 years and church treasurer for 40 plus years. He also served as a deacon, Sunday school secretary for many years and various other capacities over his many years with the church.

He is survived by two sisters, Shirley J. Jacob and Virginia "Jenny" Jeanes and husband, Opey, all of Mount Olive, and nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Creedmoor, officiated by Dr. Gerald Goodwin and Dr. Tom Jenkins. Burial will be in Creedmoor Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Daryl Barber, Dick Barber, Richard Barber, Mike Gray, John Hardy and Wayne Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be the board of deacons of First Baptist Church Creedmoor.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. before the service at the church.
