Aug. 26, 1936-Aug. 28, 2010

With family members at her bedside, Christine Washington transitioned into the heavenly realm of angels Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010.

A native of Wayne County, she was born Aug. 26, 1936, to the late Tony and Josephine Lewis.

She was a faithful member of New Stoney Hill Holy Church, and was ordained as a mother of the church.

She worked as a volunteer for WAGES Senior Companion Program.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Washington, and a son, Terry Lewis.

She is survived by her children, Wilma (James) Dortch and William Andre´ Washington of Goldsboro and Glenda Washington of Hahira, Ga.; five sisters, elder Adeen George, minister Lorene Beamon and Sadie Brown all of Goldsboro, Araime Brown of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Jane Guss of Locust Grove, Ga.; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A homegoing service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Branch Memorial Tabernacle, 500 Gulley St., with elder Howard E. McNair officiating. She will be laid to rest in Old Mill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Rhodes Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. to greet friends, and at other times at 422 Cardinal Drive, where they will assemble for the funeral processional.

A sympathetic and dignified service entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home of Goldsboro.
