JOSEPH ERNEST SANDERSON

FOUR OAKS -- Joseph Ernest Sanderson, 87, died June 25, 2010.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Selah Christian Church with the Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Sanderson is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Darrel Conley of Henrietta and Beth and Scott Peterson of Gaffney, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Vickey Sanderson of Four Oaks, David and Jackie Sanderson of Four Oaks; grandchildren, Joseph, James and Jacob Conley, Greg, Zach and Anna Beth Peterson, Josh, Matt, Kari and Nicki Sanderson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Smith Sanderson, parents, E.K. and Donnie Sanderson, and sister, Margaret Sanderson Westbrook

Mr. Sanderson was a farmer in the Grantham community. He graduated from Grantham High School and N.C. State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Industry. Mr. Sanderson worked as farm manager of the Upper Piedmont Tobacco Experiment Station in Rural Hall, NC from 1947 to 1952.

Mr. Sanderson was an active member of Selah Christian Church where he served the Lord in many roles--treasurer, pianist, choir member, elder and deacon. He was active in his community and served 20 years as a Jordans Chapel Volunteer Fireman. Mr. Sanderson served on the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors from 1956-1990.

He was a member of the Grantham Grange and had at one time served on the Wayne County Board of Education and on the Goldsboro Hospital Board.

The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m.
