Arthur Douglass Royal Jr. died at Wayne Memorial Hospital Saturday, June 19, 2010.
Mr. Royal was born in Clinton, N.C., to the late Arthur Douglass Royal Sr. and Christine Moore Royal.
He moved to Goldsboro in 1971 with his wife, the late Sharon Bass Royal.
He was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a graduate of East Carolina University with a master's degree in education.
He taught biology and microbiology at Wayne Community College for 37 years.
Mr. Royal was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and was also on the alumni board for Barton College.
Mr. Royal was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Bass Royal; his parents, Arthur Douglass Royal Sr. and Christine Moore Royal; and his stepmother, Catherine Gowdy Royal.
Mr. Royal is survived by his two daughters, Christine Royal Dubrowsky of Goldsboro and Austin Elaine Royal of Holly Springs; his son-in-law, James Michael Dubrowsky and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Moore Dubrowsky; a sister, April Royal Bissette and her husband, Edward, of Clinton; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Jean Howard and her husband, Wayne, of Fayetteville, Connie Lorraine Bass of Wilmington; a brother-in-law, Robert Gary Bass of Myrtle Beach, S.C. He is also survived by three nieces, three nephews, seven great-nieces and three great-nephews.
The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home Monday, June 21, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The service will be at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 2 p.m., followed by a private family burial.
