Marguerite Todd Jewell Fornes, 80, died Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

There will be a graveside service Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, with the Rev. Mahan Siler and Horace Modlin officiating. Family members will remain at the grave following the service to visit with friends.

She was born in Wilmington to the late William Raleigh and Frances Naomi Todd.

She was crowned the first Azalea Princess during the inaugural Wilmington Azalea Festival in 1949.

She retired from the admitting office at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Ray and Antoinette Jewell of Kailua, Hawaii; a daughter and son-in-law, Bunny Fornes and Horace Modlin of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Louise Todd of Wilmington and Gwen Todd of Castle Hayne; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gene Franklin Jewell Sr. and Watson Almon Fornes; a son, Gene Franklin Jewell Jr.; two brothers, Theodore Todd and W.R. Todd; and three sisters, Letha Todd Clemmons, Lee Etta Todd Edwards and Marie Todd Clemmons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
