CHOCOWINITY -- Ruby Taylor Lane, 97, formerly of Faro community, passed away peacefully Sunday at the home of her daughter surrounded by her family.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Yelverton United Methodist Church in Faro community (1184 Faro Road in Fremont), followed by her funeral service at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Scott Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro.

Ruby was born in Greene County Dec. 9, 1912, to the late Dallas Taylor and Loma Hollowell Taylor. She was married to the late Larry Herman Lane.

Ruby was a 1933 graduate of East Carolina University. She was a teacher and businesswoman, and later worked with her husband, Herman, at the family business, Faro Milling Co.

Ruby was a life member of the Darden Chapter of the Eastern Star in Stantonsburg, and served as president of the Goldsboro District of the United Methodist Women. She was an active member of Yelverton United Methodist Church, and in her youth was organist for Davis Grove Baptist Church.

Ruby will be remembered by her family as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Lynda E. Lane of Chocowinity; her sons, Dallas Scott Lane and wife, Branda, of Wilson and Benjamin Larry Lane and wife, Fran, of Wilmington; her sister, Lela Mae Stevens of Snow Hill; her grandchildren, Brian Lane and wife, Susan, Cassie Donochod and husband, Dan, Larry Lane and wife, Cheryl, and Steve Lane and wife, Pamela; and her great-grandchildren, Alex Lane, Griffin Lane, Jack Lane, Matthew Donochod and Owen Donochod.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Bryant Lane and Russell Herman Lane; and her brothers, Gerhard Taylor, Edgar Taylor and Carlton Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yelverton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 67, Stantonsburg, N.C., 27833.
