Joseph Rudolph Best, 88, went to be with His Lord on Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Anderson and the Rev. Joy Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Best was born in Wayne County to the late Rufus Emmett Best and Sally Taylor Best. He was married to the late Ava Carlyle Best. Mr. Best was a farmer in the New Hope Community for many years and later retired from R.G. Barry Company. He was a member of the New Hope Road Church of God.

Mr. Best is survived by his daughter, Jo Ann Duke of California; his sons, Tim Best and wife, Pam, of Smithfield and Allen Best and wife, Teresa, of Goldsboro; his son-in-law, James Holden of Goldsboro; his sister, Ethelene Ham of Goldsboro; his sisters-in-law, Sue Cunningham and Lula Martin; his grandchildren, Richard Holden, Jessica Henry and husband, Dan, LaVonne Holman and husband, Kirk, Angie Allen and husband, Jeff, Heather Lewis and husband, Rodney, and Joseph Best and wife, Jessica; his great-grandchildren, Heather Holman, Wendy Holman, Spencer Lewis, Robin Henry, Riley Allen, Noah Lewis, Noelle Lewis, Galen Henry, Mason Best, and Micah Best; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Holden; his brother, Edgar Best and his sisters, Pearl Daniels, Dorothy Craig and Blanche Gurley.

The family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at 2665 U.S. Hwy. 13 N., Goldsboro.
