DUDLEY -- Harvey Stephen Jernigan Sr., 74, passed away on Friday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Services for Mr. Jernigan will be held today at 6 p.m. at Tyndall's Funeral Chapel in Mount Olive with the Rev. A.G. Smith and the Rev. John Mark Windley officiating, after which the family will receive friends. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday in Pineview Cemetery.
Mr. Jernigan, 74, resided at 2757 Emmaus Church Road, Dudley. He was a member of Indian Springs Free Will Baptist Church, where in past years he was a deacon. He was retired with 36 1/2 years of service with the Wayne County unit of the NC Dept. of Transportation, serving as equipment operator and foreman. He was the son of the late Harvey and Margaret Lane Jernigan.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Lane Jernigan, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie J. and Kirk Barnett of Dudley, and Kimberly J. and Ted Thornton of Mount Olive; two sons, Gary Wayne Jernigan of Dudley; and special friend, Janet Waters Price of Mount Olive, and Harvey Stephen Jernigan Jr. of Dudley, along with his wife, Joyce Kelly Jernigan; four sisters, Hilda J. Kelly and husband, George, of Mount Olive, Eunice J. Rains of Goldsboro, Maggie J. Barwick of Mount Olive, and Margaret J. Reaves and husband, Bennie, of Dudley; grandchildren, Ashley Barnett, Jessica B. Byrd and husband, Chris, Tiffany Thornton, Melanie J. Dillard and husband, Roger, Gary Jernigan Jr., Steven Jernigan, and Kayla Thornton; and three great-grandchildren, Shelby Jernigan, Riley Jernigan, and Kaylie Dillard.
