Attorney Earl Whitted Jr., 78, a resident of 1206 S. Best St., died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Earl Whitted Sr. and Mable Rue Whitted. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Virginia Weaver Whitted.
He was a native of Wayne County and a former member of the City Council and Board of Aldermen.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at First African Baptist Church in Goldsboro by the Rev. Dr. Louis S. Leigh Jr. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Atty. D. Lynn Whitted, Goldsboro; two sons, Atty. Stephen Earl Whitted, Atlanta, Ga., and Atty. Kenneth F. Whitted, Alexandria, Va.; five sisters, Ruth W. Britt of Laurel, Md., and Elizabeth W. Hobbs, Ernestine W. Wooten, Bernice W. Webster and Eunice W. Hudson, all of Goldsboro; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at First African Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home, Oxford, N.C. 919-693-8870, Fax 919-693-8755.
