J. HOWARD REDDING

ASHEBORO -- John Howard Redding, 73, passed away Sunday.
Funeral service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Howard was born to the late Dr. and Mrs. John O. Redding Jr. Sept. 30, 1936, in New Orleans, La., and subsequently moved to Asheboro.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Davidson College in 1960 and his J.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1964.
Howard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958.
March 28, 1964, he married Carolyn Borden Edgerton, of Goldsboro. Howard's grandfather, the late Dr. Holly Wilberforce Wells of Asheboro, presided over the service.
Howard was an accomplished attorney, artist and founding board member of Randolph Bank and Trust Co., serving from 1977 to 2008.
Howard was also active in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and will be especially remembered for his generous charitable contributions to the Randolph Arts Guild and Ducks Unlimited of Randolph County.
Howard is survived by his wife, Carolyn Edgerton Redding of Asheboro; three children, Dr. John Fulton Redding II and spouse, Dr. Rebecca Steddom Redding, of Asheboro, Katharine Redding Braak of Raleigh and Charles Edgerton Redding and spouse Anna Carmichael Redding, of Midlothian, Va.; his sister, Leslie Redding Marquardt and husband, Dennis Merrill Marquardt, of Morehead City and their children, William Lyle Marquardt and spouse, Charmaine Phillips Marquardt, and Holly Marquardt Rice and spouse, Christopher Byron Rice; and grandchildren, Margaret Katharine Redding, Elizabeth Anne Redding, Charles Howard Redding and Campbell Carmichael Redding.
Howard was preceded in death by his brother, William Andrews Redding.
Visitation will be held for friends and family at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd tonight from 6 to 8.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to either the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 505 Mountain Road, Asheboro, N.C., 27205, or Randolph Arts Guild, 123 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, N.C., 27203
