Doris Basden, 82, went to be with the Lord Sunday. She passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, ending her battle with congestive heart failure.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk chapel, followed by a graveside service at Wayne Memorial Park. Afterward, family will receive friends at the home at 3595 U.S. 117 alternate in Dudley.

She was the daughter of the late Richard and Ethel Dawson Hall and the wife of the late William Ray Basden. She was a former co-owner of Basden Builders Supply. She enjoyed more than 30 years as a member and served as an officer of TOPS Chapter #NC1.

Her green thumb nurtured many beautiful plants, but her specialty was gorgeous African violets.

She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her own clothes in her earlier years and clothes for her children as well. Her family proudly boasts of her cooking talents, especially her chicken salad, lemon pound cake and her famous chocolates.

In her later years, she loved to travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., with her siblings, enjoying their fellowship while shopping and enjoying the Eddie Miles shows. Doris was a beautiful lady, who touched many lives through her generosity and compassion.

Mrs. Basden is survived by her son, Don and wife, Debbie, of Dudley; her son, Larry and wife, Linda Jo, of Greenville; her daughter Wendy, and husband, Michael Betot, of Cary; her daughter-in-law, Kim Basden of Fuquay-Varina; a brother, Billy Hall Sr. and wife, Ann, of Goldsboro; a sister, Lorraine and husband, Danny Butts, of Dudley; a sister, Linda and husband, David Grant, of McLeansville, her sister-in-law, Lois Barwick of Dudley; two aunts; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Basden.

Visitation for the family will be at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro Wednesday at 1.
