David Lee Tate, 76, 314 E. Maple St., departed this life Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A homegoing service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Abundant Grace Church, 221 Durham Lake Road in Dudley. His mortal body will rest in Carver Cemetery in Dudley.

Mr. Tate was born in Wayne County Nov. 12, 1933, to the late William and Frances Corbett Tate.

He worked as a greens keeper on the golf course for 30 years in Groton, Conn.

After retiring, he returned home to North Carolina.

He leaves to cherish his memories his lovely wife, Rachel Pauline Tate; four children, Linda Gardner of Brooklyn, N.Y., Gwendolyn White and husband, Howard White, Ronald Tate and wife, Vanya Tate of New London, Conn., and Paulette Jackson and husband, Terry Jackson, of Newport News, Va.; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Outlaw and Shirley Grady both of North Carolina; two brothers, Bernest Tate of New London, Conn., and Ernest Tate of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Willie Outlaw of North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Betty Tate of New London, Conn., and Lucille Tate of Mount Olive; and a host of other relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a son.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 7 p.m., with the family present to receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries of Mount Olive.

The family will receive friends at other times at the residence, where they will assemble one hour before the funeral in preparation for the funeral procession.
