DOROTHY JOYNER-EVANS

Dorothy Joyner-Evans, daughter of the late Allen and Georgia Joyner, departed this life Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday at noon at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 209 S. Carey St. in LaGrange. A public viewing will begin at 11 a.m. Following the homegoing celebration, burial will take place at LaGrange Cemetery.

She was the last of eight siblings to depart this life.

Ms. Joyner was born in LaGrange Feb. 12, 1923.

Following completion of high school in Lenoir County, she relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she worked in several businesses. Around 1965, she began employment with Hudson Vitamin Co. in New York and later New Jersey, where she worked until her retirement in 1986.

She relocated to Goldsboro and lived here until her death.

She was married to Willie Paul Evans, a Goldsboro native, who predeceased her.

She was an active member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Goldsboro, where she participated in several clubs and auxiliaries.

She is survived by a son, Irving Joyner of Cary; a stepson, Willie Evans (Beverly) of Durham; three grandchildren, Lauren Joyner Bowers (Keith) of Washington, D.C., Kwame Joyner of Las Vegas, Nev., and Tuere Williams of Stamford, Conn.; sister-in-law, Essie Joyner of Norfolk, Va.; five great-grandchildren; three nieces; four nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends for viewing and visitation Friday from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St. in Goldsboro.

Memorial contributions are solicited and can be made to the Dorothy Joyner Scholarship Fund at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
